Continuing Education for the Dental Assistant
Course Description
COURSE FEE: $300
Our course consists of 3 hours of didactic and 4 hours of clinical in-person instruction.
Upon successful completion of the course, the dental assistant will receive a Certificate of Completion for Coronal Polishing.
This is a one day, in-person course.
What you'll learn:
- Understand the objective of coronal polishing and the differentiation from the complete dental prophylaxis.
- Be able to identify types of stain and the effect coronal polishing may or may not have on each.
- Learn to identify and select the appropriate abrasive agents and tools.
- Know the importance of identifying anatomical structures as it relates to the periodontium and morphology.
- Be able to safely and effectively operate the handpiece and perform coronal polishing.
The course will consist of didactic instruction as well as supervised clinical exploration of equipment. After completion of the seven-hour course and successful completion of written evaluation, the student will be presented with a certificate to legally monitor patients using nitrous oxide under the direct supervision of a dentist in the state of North Carolina.
Course Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:

Per the NC Dental board (21 NCAC 16H.0203(a)), any DAI or DAII in the state of North Carolina is now permitted to receive training and certification in Coronal Polishing regardless of hours logged, effectively removing the previous 3000-hour chairside requirement. A licensed dentist must approve the dental assistant to take this course.
Prerequisite for Coronal Polishing Course:
Must be an employed dental assistant in NC. Proof of employment and signed approval from Employer required to participate in the course.
